What is a Daniel Fast?

A Daniel Fast is an opportunity to draw closer to God through focused prayer and a partial 21-day fast. It involves restricting certain foods. (There are many Daniel Fast guides on the internet.)

Who Can Do a Daniel Fast?

Anyone who is looking for a deeper connection with the Lord, and is willing to make a three-week commitment to the discipline of fasting as a means of pursuing that connection. Important Note: Please talk with your doctor before beginning any type of fast, including the Daniel Fast, especially if you have a medical condition, or any health concerns.

Read Daniel 1:8-16, 10:3 (21 days)
Choose a starting date and end 21 days later

What To Do:

  • Pray intentionally and consistently every day. (Having a set time helps.)
  • Make a list of 3-6 big things that can happen only if God does them!
  • Answers are sometimes immediate; sometimes happen through the year

Basic Guide: Foods to Eat on a Daniel Fast:

  • All fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts and seeds, legumes: all without artificial flavors, colors or added sugar/sweeteners.
  • Unleavened bread (no yeast or baking powder – no processed or refined breads), unrefined brown rice, barley, oats and other whole grains.
  • What to drink: Water.

Foods to Avoid on a Daniel Fast:

  • All meat/animal products, dairy products, sweeteners, refined/processed food, deep-fried foods, solid fats.
  • Alcohol, carbonated drinks, coffee, tea energy drinks.
